Back up your Data!
Well, it has happened again just recently. Someone I know was totally distraught over losing their data. With computers becoming more common as tools in our everyday lives, it seems as though we are putting more and more information on them and trusting them to keep it without error. This is a BIG mistake. You CANNOT trust a computer to work perfectly.
Just accept that simple fact. Sooner or later your system WILL fail. Almost everybody learns to back up their stuff the HARD way... usually by losing it at some time or another. I am certainly no exception. Fortunately, I learned this lesson long ago and am fairly adamant about keeping my stuff backed up. I suggest you start doing the following:
- Back up your data REGULARLY
- Make EXTRA copies of ANYTHING you wish to keep.
- LEARN about the new ways to store your digital stuff (files, documents, music, pictures)
There are many reasons that we can lose data. Whether it be from virus infections, accidental deletion, hardware & software failures, or power failures, I strongly suggest that you learn how to back up your precious data.
I'm going to help you get started with these today with some basic information. Use the links below to read more about the various topics.
- Windows XP from Microsoft.com
- Windows Vista
- Online backups for a nominal fee from Mozy.com
- Use different types of Media like USB Removable Drives
I usually use CD or DVD to back up my data. They are fairly cheap and can be purchased from just about anywhere. Choose the media that best suits your needs, but back up your data before its too late!!
